Nikolaus Harnoncourt (1929-2016) was one of the most innovative and influential conductors of the second half of the 20th century, as he brought historical performance practice to a wide audience and popularized its principles. He made hundreds of recordings with his Concentus Musicus Wien, which he founded in 1953; still few people are aware of his early recordings for the VANGUARD and MHS labels, which were made between 1960 and 1970. This invaluable musical legacy is collected here for the first time in an 11-CD box set.
